Mary and Linda prepare to lay some 1/2" irrigation hose.
Signs of life in the lettuce and pea areas! 5/29/08

Something going on in Rev. Maddox's Raddish Patch!

Here we have some "Overview" shots, May 29.

In the first shot are Jeannie and Sharon spreading mulch
in the new Bed 5 on June 10. The second is of Maisie and Connie
looking up from trimming the pathways
between beds. To the left of the shot is our first trellis.
Note the differences in how things are progressing.
Volunteers from Sam's Club came to help us on 6/22 and 6/24 -
we hope they make it on a regular basis!

A very productive day on 6/22 with 14 volunteers.

Our first pickings, accepted by Susan Goodell,
Executive Director of Forgotten Harvest, on 6/30/08.

Shots from 7/13/08.

Shots from 7/29/08

These were taken 8/7/08. In the first one, you will see the "Fallow" area in the bottom left - earlier we cut down or pulled the buckwheat and spring oats (after gathering seed for next year). In the second, one of the largest tomatos I've ever seen, in the Demonstration Bed. The third shows our rest area (and we have needed it this summer!), borrowing one of the church's picnic tables and putting it under a red pine just South of the planting beds.

From the Open House on Aug. 30.

These photos were taken on Sunday, September 21. Many things are winding down
but there is yet much to be harvested. We have laid out new lines for 16 more beds,
most of which will be prepared with mulch on top of newspaper, as was trialed in
the Demonstration Bed.

The lettuce was in this open space.

Peas were here.
Odette is smoothing out ground that we have just
desodded, in preparation of planting red clover seeds.
In the bed to the left, hairy vetch, which we seeded
last week, is already coming up

Linda is harvesting basil.

Young men from the Detroit Transitional School help
us out on Tuesday mornings.
In October, things are slowing down. We've had two heavy frosts and
a hard freeze. Most of the tomatoes are still green, so we hope
for another harvest. All of the potatoes, peas, beans, carrots, beets,
zucchini, and lettuce have been taken up. These shots
are from Sunday, 10/5/08.
